One of the things that is traditionally done in American politics is the outgoing President wishing his successor luck and then fading into the background. You don’t stand on the sidelines and criticize the new President. George H.W. Bush did not criticize Bill Clinton, Bill Clinton did not criticize George W. Bush and George W. Bush did not criticize Barrack Obama. I hope that President Obama extends the same courtesy to President Trump.
It is very unusual for a retiring President to remain in Washington DC. I understand that the Obama’s want to give their youngest daughter the opportunity to finish high school at Sidwell Friends. But that makes it all the more important that he refrain from trying to be the center of attention. He had his eight years in the limelight and hopefully will follow the traditional protocol.
